Academic Seminar in Cambodia

On 22 November 2019, we held an “Academic Seminar -Study in Japan-” to convey the appeal of research at Japanese universities as part of the Study in Japan Global Network Project (ASEAN) commissioned by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology at the Cambodian-Japan Cooperation Center (CJCC). In this seminar, faculty members of Tokyo Institute of Technology, Kanazawa University, Chiba University and Okayama University introduced the university and its research contents. The Vice President of the Japan Alumni of Cambodia (JAC) talked about his study abroad experience in Japan. General information on study in Japan was given by TORIGOE Asami, a Study in Japan Coordinator of Okayama University Japan Educational Information Center (OJEIC), and 150 local high school and university students participated in the consultations conducted in individual booth of each university. Following the seminar, the group paid a courtesy call to the Department of Higher Education, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Cambodia to explain the project, and exchanged views with YOU VIRAK, Deputy Director General, on future cooperation and exchanges. Academic Seminar at Surabaya Institute of Technology, Indonesia

Holds Academic Seminar -Study in Japan- by Six National Universities at Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, Indonesia On 20 November 2019, with the cooperation of The Six National Universities (the Consortium of Six National Universities in Japan (SixERS)), we held the “Academic Seminar -Study in Japan-” at Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology in Indonesia to convey the attractiveness of research in Japan, as a part of the Study in Japan Global Network Project (ASEAN) entrusted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. In this seminar, the faculty members of the six national universities introduced researches, the faculty members of the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology shared their experiences in studying in Japan, and explained general information on study in Japan including scholarship information. A lottery was also held for participants, and about 250 local university students and faculty members participated. At the individual consultation booth, each faculty member gave specific advice on questions from students. In his closing remarks, Mr. OTANI Jun, Vice President for International Affairs of Kumamoto University, stated, “Experience in studying abroad can not only deepen learning but also broaden your views. I would like you to take on the challenge,” encouraging the participants based on his own experience. Laos Investment Seminar – Lao Economy, Investment and Education

On 30 October 2019, we held a special seminar titled “Lao Economy, Investment and Education” as part of the Study in Japan Global Network Project at the Faculty of Letters, Law, and Economics Lecture Room Building of Okayama University. We invited to the seminar His Excellency Dr. Kikeo Chanthaboury, Vice Minister, Ministry of Planning and Investment of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, and Dr. SUZUKI Motoyoshi, Special Advisor to Minister, Ministry of Planning and Investment of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and President of the Lao School of Business and Commerce (LSBC). The event drew approximately 120 audience members, including representatives from companies in Okayama, as well as faculty, students, and staff of Okayama University. At the seminar, His Excellency Mr. Viroth SUNDARA from the Embassy of Laos in Japan delivered an address. Also, Vice Minister Kikeo and Special Advisor SUZUKI gave keynote lectures, titled “Messages to Japanese Companies and Universities” and “Lao Economy, Investment and Education” respectively. Afterwards, President MATSUDA Hisashi of the Okayama Chamber of Commerce and Industry expressed his appreciation to the lecturers. The seminar also included presentations by students of Okayama University regarding their research on foreign countries based on their experiences in Myanmar and Laos, case studies of local companies in Okayama that are doing business in Laos, and presentations by representatives from special economic zones in Laos.

Academic Seminar in Vietnam

On 4 October 2019, we held the Academic Seminar at Nong Lam University in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, to explain the advantages of conducting research at universities in Japan. The seminar was organized as part of the Study in Japan Global Network Project (ASEAN), commissioned by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. The seminar began with an opening address by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tat Toan, Vice President of Nong Lam University, which was followed by presentations by faculty and staff from Osaka University, Kyushu University, Kanazawa University, and Okayama University regarding each university’s research and study programs in Japan. The event drew approximately 350 attendants, including students, faculty, and staff from local universities. Since the event coincided with Nong Lam University’s job fair, it served as a good opportunity to tell many more students about the attractive features of studying in Japan. After the seminar, we paid a courtesy visit to and exchanged opinions with the Head of International Cooperation Office at Nong Lam University, who had previously studied in Japan, and Okayama University alumni. We mainly talked about interactions between the university and the Japanese universities to attract many more Vietnamese students to Japan. At Okayama University, we will continue to cooperate with local institutions and universities for the Study in Japan Global Network Project to encourage foreign students to study in Japan. Academic Seminars at two universities in Indonesia

On September 16 and 17, 2019, Okayama University held an Academic Seminar in Indonesia at IPB University and the University of Indonesia, in collaboration with the Six National Universities Network/International Education & Research System, Japan (SUN/SixERS) to convey the benefits of studying at universities in Japan. The seminars were held to encourage local students to study in Japan as part of the “Study in Japan Global Network Project (ASEAN),” with which Okayama University has been entrusted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. On September 16, we paid a courtesy call before the seminar to the faculty members responsible for international cooperation at IPB University. With a local faculty member who earned a doctoral degree in Japan participating in the meeting, we had an active exchange of views on studying in Japan. At the seminar, three professors, one each from Chiba University, Kumamoto University, and Okayama University, provided presentations. Moreover, representing of the Embassy of Japan in Indonesia, Yusuke Takahashi, First Secretary, and Britantia Juliant participated in the event and gave a presentation regarding the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarships. On September 17, the seminar held at the University of Indonesia was attended by many people with the cooperation of Rinjani Hanani Suyu, Education Adviser of the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) Indonesia office. The events provided individual consultations for studying in Japan, attracting a total of about 190 local university students, alumni, and teaching staff over two days. Academic Seminar at Royal University of Phnom Penh, Cambodia

On 9 September 2019, Okayama University held an Academic Seminar at the Royal University of Phnom Penh in Cambodia to convey the benefits of studying at universities in Japan, which attracted approximately 50 local university students and teaching staff. The seminar was held to encourage local students to study in Japan as part of the “Study in Japan Global Network Project (ASEAN),” with which Okayama University has been entrusted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Representing Okayama University’s Graduate School of Environmental and Life Science, Professor FUJIWARA Takeshi gave a lecture on the theme “Waste Management and Recycling,” and Professor MURATA Yoshiyuki provided information regarding studying in Japan. Furthermore, a faculty member of the Royal University of Phnom Penh, who earned a doctoral degree from Okayama University, talked about the experience of studying in Japan, introducing specific stories. These presentations made the participants feel more familiar with studying in Japan. Moreover, the event provided various information regarding studying in Japan, including the Study-in-Japan Fair to be held in October, publicized by a representative of the Cambodia-Japan Cooperation Center (CJCC). After the event, the Okayama University faculty members paid a courtesy call to Japan Alumni of Cambodia (JAC). At the meeting with Vuthy Monyrath, JAC’s President, they called for cooperation in promoting the Study in Japan Global Network Project in Cambodia and had an active exchange of views on the matter. Okayama University will strive to promote this project to invite more global students to study in Japan by providing relevant information through a wide variety of events.

Malaysia

Academic Seminar was held in Malaysia

Okayama University held an Academic Seminar at University Putra Malaysia (UPM) on 2 August 2019. As part of ASEAN's Study in Japan Global Network Project commissioned to Okayama University by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), the seminar was organized for the first time in Malaysia to promote the attraction of conducting research at Japanese universities. The event, attended by 128 students and teachers, began with a welcome address by Prof. Dr. Rusli Bin Hj Abdullah, Deputy Dean of the School of Graduate Studies at UPM. Following this, teachers from Okayama University delivered lectures. Many students visited the individual consultation booths to ask questions about studying in Japan and future career plans. During their visit to Malaysia, the teachers from Okayama University introduced this project at the National University of Malaysia, Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology, and Japan Graduates Association of Malaysia (JAGAM), among other organizations, and exchanged opinions about the seminars to be organized in Malaysia in the future.
