Promoting Study in Japan at the Emperor's Birthday Reception in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia
On February 13, the Malaysia Office of the Okayama University Japan Educational Information Center (OJEIC), operating under the “Global Network Project to Promote Study in Japan” commissioned by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), participated in the Emperor of Japan’s Birthday Reception hosted by the Consular Office of Japan in Kota Kinabalu. At the event, OJEIC promoted study in Japan to distinguished guests, including the Chief Minister of Sabah, government officials, educators, and consular representatives from various countries.
During the reception, the Chief Minister of Sabah, Tun Musa Aman, and H.E. Mr. Takayuki Shikata, Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia, delivered opening remarks and expressed their hopes for further strengthening the friendship between Sabah, Malaysia, and Japan.
Alongside the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) and Japanese companies operating in the region, OJEIC hosted an information booth to promote study in Japan. The booth attracted many visitors, including local government officials, faculty members from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), and former international students and their families.
This project places strong emphasis on enhancing collaboration with partner institutions, Japanese diplomatic missions, and private-sectors organizations. Going forward, we will continue to strengthen our networks with key stakeholders and carry out effective promotional activities tailored to Malaysia’s diverse cultural context, including participation in study abroad fairs and school outreach initiatives.
●Global Network Project to Promote Study in Japan
This project is the successor to earlier initiatives (the Study in Japan Coordinator Project and the Study in Japan Global Network Project) that began in 2014. Okayama University is responsible for Southeast Asia. Starting this fiscal year, Malaysia and Indonesia have been designated as priority countries, and we actively promoting Japanese Education in Southeast Asia, advancing the globalization of Japanese higher education institutions with our university at the core.
