Why did you choose to study in Japan?

I always wanted to do post grad study abroad. Since Japan is known as one of the safest countries and has advance research technologies, I choose to study in Japan.

နိုင်ငံခြားမှာ အမြဲတမ်း ဘွဲ့လွန် ပညာသင် ချင်ခဲ့ပါတယ်။ ဂျပန်နိုင်ငံကအလုံခြုံဆုံးနိုင်ငံတစ်ခုအဖြစ် လူသိများပြီး သုတေသနနည်းပညာများ တိုးတက်သောကြောင့် ဂျပန်တွင် ပညာသင်ကြားရန် ရွေးချယ်ခဲ့ပါတယ်။

How did you prepare for studying in Japan?

(English)
I had a chance to talk with seniors who are doing post grad study in Japan. I learn about the Okayama university and become interested in PhD program of Oral pathology and medicine department. Associate professor from my department was kind enough to help me with the inquiries and documentation. My professor suggested me to apply for JASSO scholarship since I’m a privately financed student and the application process went smoothly. However due to the spread of corona virus, I was restricted to enter Japan for a few months.

ဂျပန်မှာ ဘွဲ့လွန်သင်တန်းတက်နေတဲ့ senior တွေနဲ့ စကားပြောခွင့်ရခဲ့ပါတယ်။ Okayama တက္ကသိုလ်အကြောင်းလေ့လာပြီး ခံတွင်းရောဂါဗေဒနှင့် ဆေးပညာဌာန၏ PhD ပရိုဂရမ်ကို စိတ်ဝင်စားလာခဲ့ပါတယ်။ ဌာနမှ တွဲဖက်ပါမောက္ခဆရာကိုဆက်သွယ်ခဲ့ပြီး
မေးမြန်းစုံစမ်းခဲ့ရာ ဆရာက စာရွက်စာတမ်းများကို
ကူညီပေးခဲ့ပါသည်။ ကျွန်ုပ်သည် private financed ကျောင်းသားတစ်ဦးဖြစ်သောကြောင့် JASSO ပညာသင်ဆုလျှောက်ထားရန် တွဲဖက်ပါမောက္ခက ကျွန်ုပ်အား အကြံပေးပြီး လျှောက်လွှာပြင်ဆင်ခဲ့ပါသည်။ ဒါပေမယ့် ကိုရိုနာဗိုင်းရပ် ပြန့်ပွားမှုကြောင့် ဂျပန်ကို လအနည်းငယ် ဝင်ခွင့် ကန့်သတ်ခံခဲ့ရပါတယ်။

What are you studying/researching in Japan?

(English)
I’m currently doing research at Oral Pathology and Medicine department. My research is about a specific chemokine and its role in tumor microenvironment. What’s interesting about my research is that the chemokine can be a target for oral cancer treatment therapies.

What do you do in your personal time?

During holidays and weekends, my hobby is to visit the local café and museum. My friends and I also travel to nearby cities and islands to explore new areas and try various local food.

အားလပ်ရက်များနှင့် ပိတ်ရက်တွေမှာ ကော်ဖီဆိုင်နှင့် ပန်းချီ
ပြတိုက်သို့ သွားရောက်လည်ပတ်ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ အနီးနားရှိ မြို့များနှင့် ကျွန်းများသို့ ခရီးထွက်ပြီး နေရာသစ်များကို ရှာဖွေကာဒေသအစားအစာမျိုးစုံကို မြည်းစမ်းကြည့်ရဒါ
ကြိုက်ပါတယ်။

Please tell us about your challenges in Japan and how you overcame them.

The very first challenge I had to face was a language barrier. So, I was motivated to do self-study and I try to communicate with my friends and teachers in Japanese as much as possible.

အခက်အခဲကတော့ ဘာသာစကားဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ဒါကြောင့် ဂျပန်ဘာသာကို self study လေ့လာပြီး သူငယ်ချင်းများ၊ ဆရာများနှင့် ဂျပန်ဘာသာဖြင့် အတတ်နိုင်ဆုံး ဆက်သွယ်ရန် ကြိုးစားခဲ့ပါတယ်။

Any encouraging message and/or advice to those who wish to study in Japan.

Although living by yourself and studying in a foreign country is not easy, it will be worth it as you will learn about yourself more. You will achieve more than you are capable of. If you have dreams of studying in Japan, you can make it come true.
