Academic Seminar at Royal University of Phnom Penh, Cambodia

On 9 September 2019, Okayama University held an Academic Seminar at the Royal University of Phnom Penh in Cambodia to convey the benefits of studying at universities in Japan, which attracted approximately 50 local university students and teaching staff.

The seminar was held to encourage local students to study in Japan as part of the “Study in Japan Global Network Project (ASEAN),” with which Okayama University has been entrusted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Representing Okayama University’s Graduate School of Environmental and Life Science, Professor FUJIWARA Takeshi gave a lecture on the theme “Waste Management and Recycling,” and Professor MURATA Yoshiyuki provided information regarding studying in Japan. Furthermore, a faculty member of the Royal University of Phnom Penh, who earned a doctoral degree from Okayama University, talked about the experience of studying in Japan, introducing specific stories. These presentations made the participants feel more familiar with studying in Japan. Moreover, the event provided various information regarding studying in Japan, including the Study-in-Japan Fair to be held in October, publicized by a representative of the Cambodia-Japan Cooperation Center (CJCC).

After the event, the Okayama University faculty members paid a courtesy call to Japan Alumni of Cambodia (JAC). At the meeting with Vuthy Monyrath, JAC’s President, they called for cooperation in promoting the Study in Japan Global Network Project in Cambodia and had an active exchange of views on the matter.
