What did you do before studying in Japan?

University student

Why did you choose to study in Japan?

I had an opportunity to visit Japan for the first time as an exchange student, and I have a good impression of how clean and hi-tech Japan is. Then I started learning Japanese and embraced Japanese culture. Since then, it was my goal to continue my education in Japan.

How did you prepare for studying in Japan?

Every year, I saw my seniors taking MEXT exams to study in Japan. When the application period started, I registered and took the exams. I love maths, English and Japanese so I had fun taking the exam.

What are you studying/researching in Japan?

I spent my first three years studying Japanese and business management. Then I transferred to a university as a third year student and changed my major to modern economics. The last two years, I did research about the efficiency of banks in economics department.

What do you do in your personal time?

I worked a few part time jobs when I was a student. Now in my leisure time, I like to study Japanese, watch Japanese TV show, walk around the neighborhood and find some good restaurants to eat.

Please tell us about your challenges in Japan and how you overcame them.

I had to adapt a lot into Japanese work culture when I did a part time job in a famous brand fast food restaurant in the central of Shinjuku. I also took some time to learn about Japanese manners in order to fit in Japanese community.

Any encouraging message and/or advice to those who wish to study in Japan.

It may seem like there’s a lot of things you don’t know at first since something’s totally different from your country. But once you get used to the new environment, you will have opportunities to develop yourself and you’ll find there’s a lot of things you can enjoy in Japan.
