Why did you choose to study in Japan?

First of all, I chose to study in Japan because of the high-quality of education. The Japanese education is systematic and moreover, Japanese universities are ranked in top 100 in world rankings. Since, degrees from the Japanese universities are recognized internationally, I can work in every countries wherever I wish to if I get a degree from one of the Japanese universities.

Second, in Japan, unlike other countries, there are uncountable job opportunities for international students. If you get a degree from a university and you are talented, you are welcomed to work without discrimination.

ပထမဦးဆုံးအချက်အနေနဲ့ ပညာသင်ဖို့Japan ကိုရွေးချယ်ဖြစ်ခဲ့တာကတော့ ဂျပန်နိုင်ငံရဲ့ ပညာရေးအဆင့်အတန်းမြင့်မားမှုကြောင့်ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ ဂျပန်နိုင်ငံရဲ့ပညာရေးကစနစ်ကျပြီးတော့ ဂျပန်တက္ကသိုလ်တွေကတစ်ကမ္ဘာလုံးရဲ့ ranking မှာ အဆင့် ၁၀၀ အတွင်းဝင်တာကြောင့်ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ ဂျပန်တက္ကသိုလ်ကဘွဲ့ကနိုင်ငံတကာအသိအမှတ်ပြုတဲ့အတွက် ဂျပန်တက္ကသိုလ်တစ်ခုခုကနေ ဘွဲ့ရရင် ဘယ်နိုင်ငံမှာမဆို အလုပ်လုပ်နိုင်မယ်လို့ထင်ပါတယ်။

ဒုတိယအချက်ကတော့ အခြားနိုင်ငံတွေနဲ့မတူပဲ ဂျပန်နိုင်ငံမှာက နိုင်ငံခြားသားကျောင်းသားတွေအတွက်အလုပ်အကိုင်အခွင့်အလမ်းပေါများတာပဲဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ ဂျပန်တက္ကသလိုလ်ကနေဘွဲ့ရပြီး အရည်အချင်းလည်းရှိတယ်ဆိုရင် ခွဲခြားဆက်ဆံခြင်းမရှိပဲ အလုပ်လုပ်ဖို့ကမ်းလှမ်းနေကြမှာပါ။

How did you prepare for studying in Japan?

Since studying Japanese language is the most important thing for studying in Japan, I took N2 level of Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT).

Even though I was planning to come to Japan, I had no relatives or friends in Japan. Thus, I searched information about colleges and universities from the internet, and asked advice from my teacher who taught me Japanese. She told me that there are Myanmar students in Sendai who are college students at Tohoku Foreign Language ＆Tourism College. As there are seniors, I searched about that school and applied it.

After that, I also found OJEIC (Okayama University Japan Educational Information Center) and came to know about the JASSO scholarship. I contacted them and discussed how to apply for that scholarship. I applied step by step by following the guidelines, and luckily I have got the scholarship.

ဂျပန်မှာပညာသင်ဖို့အရေးကြီးဆုံးကတော့ဂျပန်ဘာသာစကားလေ့လာဖို့ဖြစ်တာကြောင့် JLPT N2 ရအောင်လုပ်ခဲ့ပါတယ်။

ဂျပန်ကိုလာဖို့ပြင်ဆင်နေပေမယ့် ဂျပန်မှာအသိမိတ်ဆွေတွေ သူငယ်ချင်းတွေတော့ မရှိပါဘူး။ အဲ့တာကြောင့်မလို့အင်တာနက်ကနေတဆင့် ဂျပန်နိုင်ငံက ကောလိပ်တွေ တက္ကသိုလ်တွေရဲ့ အချက်အလက်ကိုရှာပြီး ဂျပန်စာသင်ပေးတဲ့ ဆရာမ ဆီကလည်းအကြံဉာဏ်တောင်းခဲ့ပါတယ်။ ဆရာမ က Sendai မြို့က Tohoku Foreign Language & Tourism College ကျောင်းမှာ မြန်မာလူမျိုး ကောလိပ်ကျောင်းသားတွေရှိတယ်ဆို တာကြားတဲ့အတွက်စီနီယာတွေရှိတဲ့ အဲ့ဒီ့ကျောင်းရဲ့ အချက်အလက်တွေရှာပြီး ကျောင်းလျှောက်ခဲ့ပါတယ်။

ပြီးတော့ Ojeic page ကိုရှာတွေ့ခဲ့ပြီး JASSO scholarship အကြောင်းကို စသိခဲ့ရပါတယ်။ Ojeic ကိုဆက်သွယ်ပြီးတော့ scholarship ဘယ်လိုလျှောက်ရမယ်ဆိုတာတွေဆွေးနွေးခဲ့ပါတယ်။ ဂိုက်လိုင်းအတိုင်းတဆင့်ပြီးတဆင့်လျှောက်ခဲ့ပြီး ကံကောင်းစွာနဲ့ scholarship ကိုရခဲ့ပါတယ်။

What are you studying/researching in Japan?

Now, I am studying Japanese Language. After completing the Japanese Language course, I am planning to continue my studies at a university.

What do you do in your personal time?

As I have got the JASSO scholarship, it provides my living allowances so that I have no worries for the expenses. That’s why, I work part-time job for only 3 or 4 days in a week. Long-term holidays like winter or spring holidays, I usually go on trips to the ski resort or the beach. And also, in the school events, I always participate as a volunteer to get new experiences.

JASSO scholarship ကကျွန်မရဲ့ နေထိုင်စရိတ်တွေကာမိတာကြောင့် အသုံးစရိတ်အတွက် စိုးရိမ်စရာမရှိတဲ့အတွက် တစ်ပတ်မှာ အချိန်ပိုင်းအလုပ်ကို ၃-၄ ရက်လောက်ပဲလုပ်ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ ဆောင်းရာသီနဲ့နွေရာသီကျောင်းပိတ်ရက်ရှည်တွေမှာဆိုရင်တော့ နှင်းလျှောစီးကွင်းနဲ့ပင်လယ်ကိုသွားလည်လေ့ရှိပါတယ်။ ကျောင်းပွဲတွေရှိရင်လည်း အတွေ့အကြုံရအောင် volunteer လုပ်လေ့ရှိပါတယ်။

Please tell us about your challenges in Japan and how you overcame them.

When I came to Japan, the challenge was speaking with native speakers. I could barely understand some words because of the intonation and speed. This is because when I were in Myanmar, I learned Japanese language through textbooks and there was no practice of talking in Japanese.

However, I always talk with Japanese people from my school and part-time job to improve my listening and speaking skills. After a month, my Japanese skill is improved, and it is not that difficult to communicate with them.

ဂျပန်ရောက်ရောက်ချင်း စိန်ခေါ်မှုကတော့ ဂျပန်လူမျိုးတွေနဲ့ စကားပြောရတာပါပဲ။ စကားအနိမ့်အမြင့်အတက်အကျနဲ့ စကားပြောအရှိန်ကြောင့် အချို့စကားလုံးတွေကိုပဲနားလည်နိုင်ခဲ့ပါတယ်။ ဘာကြောင့်လဲဆိုတော့မြန်မာမှာတုန်းက ဂျပန်ဘာသာစကားကို ဖတ်စာအုပ်ကတဆင့်ပဲလေ့လာခဲ့ပြီး ဂျပန်စကားပြောကျင့်လည်းမရှိခဲ့လို့ပါ။

ဒါပေမယ့် ဂျပန်စကားပြောနဲ့ အကြားစွမ်းရည် တိုးတက်လာအောင် ကျောင်းနဲ့အချိန်ပိုင်းအလုပ်က ဂျပန်လူမျိုးတွေနဲ့အမြဲတမ်းစကားပြောဖြစ်ပါတယ်။ တစ်လကြာပြီးတဲ့နောက်မှာ ဂျပန်စကားတိုးတက်လာပြီးတော့ သူတို့နဲ့ဆက်သွယ်စကားပြောရတာ အခက်အခဲမရှိတော့ဘူးလို့ထင်ပါတယ်။

If you are planning to come to Japan, the most important thing is studying Japanese. The more fluent you are in Japanese, the more opportunities will be open to you. For example, part-time jobs or scholarships.

For those who concern of living alone in Japan, I want to say not to worry and to challenge yourself to get a better life experience.
